PLACE: Passion Learning and Community Engagement

We are thrilled to launch PLACE—Passion Learning and Community Engagement, an enrichment initiative to integrate diverse and high-interest activities into our curriculum. PLACE offers students in grades 1-4 unique opportunities to engage in activities that spark their interests and align with the Alberta Curriculum's educational outcomes.

What is PLACE?

PLACE consists of dedicated blocks during the school day each week, where students participate in a rotation of cross-graded activities, which include, but are not limited to, music (piano, ukulele, handbells), visual arts, drama, LEGO, STEAM, yoga, running, gaming, Tinkerbots, and crafting. This program is carefully curated to foster a balanced and enriching experience, allowing every student to explore new skills and passions in a structured environment.

Curricular Connections

The activities in PLACE are designed to align with the Alberta Curriculum, ensuring a robust educational foundation while engaging in creative and exploratory learning:

  • Music and Drama: Enhances auditory skills, cultural understanding, and emotional expression, meeting arts education objectives.
  • Art and Crafting: Supports visual literacy and creativity tied to art education goals.
  • LEGO and Tinkerbots: Promotes problem-solving and technological literacy, essential for science and math learning.
  • STEAM: Integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math to cultivate inquiry and critical thinking skills.
  • Running and Yoga: Addresses physical education outcomes by teaching health, wellness, and self-regulation.
  • Gaming: Develops strategic thinking and social skills, linking to social studies through cooperative and rule-based play. Cosmic Radiance Gaming sponsors this opportunity.
  • Drama: Builds communication skills, fosters empathy, and enhances understanding of diverse perspectives, supporting the language arts and social studies curriculum.

Why PLACE?

Our goal with PLACE is to create a learning environment where students can pursue their interests within a community setting, enhancing personal and academic development. This allows every student to experience a range of activities, fostering a well-rounded education and preparing them for various life challenges and opportunities. PLACE is designed as an enrichment tool and a practical approach to learning, where students apply skills in real-life contexts. This methodology prepares our students with the competencies needed for academic success and personal growth.

We look forward to your children thriving in PLACE and encourage you to connect with us as we share updates and success stories from this exciting new opportunity.
